Religious Buildings

Continuity have developed a strong reputation for our work in churches and ornate, ornamental and historic buildings. Our testimonials page bears witness to this claim and we have many satisfaction notes which praise our approach. Copies are available on request.

The UK has thousands of religious buildings of all ages, design, construction, size and denomination, with a vast array of contents, some of great beauty. Helping to restore such treasured places after fires or floods is very rewarding. Sensitivity, respect and a carefully considered approach is required.

During a fire in a religious building, smoke/soot inevitably covers the whole superstructure’s interior, and, therefore, most of the contents. Thorough decontamination is essential - smoke generated by fires is often corrosive – and the effects, if left untreated, can be catastrophic.

Marble, brass, bronze, alabaster, ivory, tapestries, slate, and stained glass windows are all examples of materials found in churches – and each needs to be approached in a particular way. There are dozens of different ways of decontaminating buildings and their contents – choosing an inappropriate method can be disastrous.

Continuity have commissioned the production of an interactive CD dealing specifically with the decontamination of churches affected by fires. Copies of this CD are available to Architects, Insurers, Loss Adjusters or anyone else interested in the Continuity approach to the restoration of delicate buildings and contents: to receive a copy, please ‘phone us or email churchrestoration@bcnltd.com
